Hatteras Convertible Refit – Back in the Water

After six months in the yard, which included numerous weather and Covid-19 delays, Encore was finally ready to go into the water.

From our original punchlist we were able to complete:

  • Paint all exterior decking
  • New electronics
  • New countertops in galley, head, and bow stateroom
  • Bottom job
  • Handrail repairs
  • Replace broken windows in salon
  • Repair damaged aft salon bulkhead
  • Convert double bed to to twin beds in master stateroom
  • Remove wallpaper and mirrors in both staterooms, repair bulkheads, and paint
  • Remove wall paper and paint bulkheads in head
  • New sink and faucet in head, new faucet galley, new faucet in v-berth, and new refrigerator
  • Wax and polish hull
  • New name on transom
  • New light fixtures

Underway Making Way

Encore made the 20 mile trip from Bay Marine in Biloxi to Pass Christian Harbor with very few issues. The engines ran great at their cruising RPM of 1900. We did have some trouble with the air conditioners tripping off while underway. When the boat is not moving they work perfectly, but once we start moving it’s a different story. We are getting air bubbles in the sea strainer while making way. Hopefully it will be something that can be figured out while the boat is in the water.

A Little More Work…

The items that we decided to complete once we got Encore to its home marina in Pass Christian were:

  • New furniture
  • New flooring in head and staterooms
  • Canvas mask and shade over cockpit
  • Eisenglass on flybridge
  • Paint engines

Also, sine Encore is a boat, requiring endless work and maintenance, the punch-list for next year’s yard stay has already begun:

  • Paint Cabin/flybridge
  • Maintenance/replacement of all seacocks
  • Possibly glass in front windows
  • Bottom job
  • Underwater lights on the transom

After six months of only seeing the boat sitting on the blocks in the yard, it is great to see Encore in the water. Next up is to get the new furniture onboard and the flooring completed. After that we are going to do a few day trips to Cat and Ship Island with the goal of becoming more comfortable and confident in all of the machinery and systems. If all goes well we will be planning inshore trips to the Biloxi Marsh and Chandeleur and offshore trips to the Horseshoe, Ram Powell, etc.
